EPISODE SYNOPSIS: Complete Control is stoked to get the founder of the Vans Warped Tour, Kevin Lyman, and comedian Ari Shaffir to sit down with Joe and have some laughs and break news about their tours. After 18 years operating the Warped Tour and time spent on Lollapalooza, Kevin Lyman has reluctantly graduated to becoming an elder statesman in punk rock. He lets us know some of the crazy history of the tour, and also about the upcoming Warped documentary, “No Room for Rock Stars,” and plans for this year’s festival. Ari Shaffir joins the conversation to share some of the deep thoughts that make him tick, and how it feels to be a Jewish man wearing a KKK hood in Compton. After college, Lyman began working with up-and-coming independent promoter Goldenvoice, serving as production manager for seminal punk rock and metal bands such as The Germs, Metallica, Circle Jerks, Anthrax and Jane’s Addiction. Kevin is best known as the producer and creator of the hugely successful Vans Warped Tour, the longest running traveling music and extreme sports festival in the world today.
