Robin Williams, on playing small comedy clubs
Robin Williams discusses the importance of performing, and watching other comedians perform, in small comedy clubs. Williams cites his drop-ins at The Comedy Cellar in New York City, as well as seeing Richard Pryor work out material decades ago at The Comedy Store in Hollywood. Williams describes the intimacy of doing stand-up and improv in a comedy club as “Lenny Bruce, the home game,” and watching others do so as akin to “watching jazz.” This video was recorded in April 2012 during The Comedy Awards in New York City.
